This page will give you an outline of the topics we will be learning about this half term.
Guided Reading
In guided reading, we will be reading the book ‘Esio Trot’.
We will answer questions around the key reading areas: vocabulary, inference, prediction, explain, retrieval, summary.
English
English this half term will be text led, focusing on the book ‘Traction Man’.
Throughout this unit, all children will:
- Use an increasing range of sentence structures
- Create narratives create settings, characters and plot
- Group related ideas into paragraphs
- Use the present and past progressive form of verbs
- Use inverted commas to punctuate direct speech
Maths
Our maths focuses this half term is multiplication and division and length and perimeter. Throughout this unit, the children will:
- Understand multiples of 10.
- Use related calculations
- Multiply a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number (no exchange and with exchanging)
- Link multiplication and division
- Divide a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number (no exchanging, flexible partition and with remainders)
- Understand scaling
- Measure in metres, centimetres and millimetres.
- Understand equivalent lengths.
- Compare, add and subtract lengths.
- Understand, measure and calculate perimeter.
Science
In science we will be learning about forces and magnets. Throughout this unit, the children will:
- Compare how different things move.
- Plan a fair test to compare how objects move on different surfaces.
- Explore how magnetic forces act at a distance.
- Compare and group materials based on whether they are attracted to a magnet.
- Predict whether magnets will attract or repel each other.
- Record scientific findings using simple scientific vocabulary. Use results to draw simple conclusions.
History
In geography, we will be learning about The Romans. Throughout this topic, the children will:
- Understand about early Rome.
- Understand how the Roman’s protected their land.
- Understand who was in charge of the Roman Empire.
- Understand the events that led up to Emperor Claudius invading Britain.
- Understand that the Roman army was powerful.
- Compare Roman settlements with Celtic villages.
- Learn about Boudicca and why she took revenge on the Romans.
- Understand what happened in the final years of the Roman Empire.
Art
In art, we will be making Roman pottery with clay. We will be recording observations and practising clay techniques before making and painting our pot using pinch and coil techniques.
RE
In RE, our Big Question is ‘How can the Bible help a Christian with their way of life?’
PSHE
In PSHE we will be learning about money through the NatWest educational programme.
Computing
In Computing, we will be learning about emailing. This will include understanding how we can communicate through technology, writing and sending an email, adding attachments and understanding the importance of being kind online.
Music
In music, the children will be learning how to play the ukulele with Mr Joliffe.
PE
PE will take place on Tuesdays and Wednesday with Mr. Hall and Mr. Kelly. Please ensure your child comes in to school in their full PE kits on these days.
Homework
Homework will be sent home on a Wednesday and needs to be returned the following Tuesday. This will include:
-Spellings on Google Classroom (to be tested on a Wednesday).
-An English or reading activity on Google Classroom.
-A maths activity set on MyMaths.
Reading books:
The children will be given a levelled book and this can be changed when the children have read it. It is important to re-read the book once you have finished as it will help you to build on your reading skills. Please ensure reading books are brought into school every day so that children can be listened to and work on their reading targets throughout the school week.
